1st Annual Doko RibFest Cook Off in the Park


Event was a great success  with estimated attendance of 2,500 and included 40 professional, amateur, & veteran teams competing and judging by Southern Barbecue Network.

Children’s games and activities were provided by Camp Discovery.

Sponsored by the Greater Blythewood Chamber of Commerce, portions of the proceeds from this event are to benefit The Big Red Barn Retreat and Stonehouse Ministries in addition the chamber’s scholarship fund.

$5,250 in prize money was paid out to competition winners.

1st            Fat Bellies – $400

2nd           Spice is Right – $250

3rd            Rick’s Backstreet BBQ – $100

An exhibit to the spirit of the event was the gesture by several teams to immediately donate their winnings to The Big Red Barn Retreat representative in attendance.

Available $20 wristbands to sample the tastings of the competing teams, $20 for a full rack of ribs, $10 for a plate (3 ribs, coleslaw, and bbq beans) were all SOLD OUT by 3:00 pm

19 Food trucks, specialty food and sweet vendors, as well as activity vendors, and beer tents were on hand and most were sold out by 6:30 pm

Musical acts included Commontime Bluegrass Band, Blues Deluxe, Phil Mack Band, Stampede, and Ramblin Road.

The spirit of community warmth and cohesiveness permeated the air along with the aroma of ribs and other foods being cooked on sight.

A hardy Thank You to the Town of Blythewood, many sponsors (identified in the link below) and volunteers helping in making this first time event a tremendous success.
