New Chamber Policy on Marketing to the Membership

While we have shared our membership contact data in the past and sent out sales announcements to the membership on the behalf of a member, it has caused an undo burden on our staff and at the same time, has generated complaints from other members about spam.  Here is the Blythewood Chamber’s new, official policy on sharing membership contact data and sending out sales/marketing announcements:
1.  Our membership directory page at our web site already includes the contact info each member wishes to share with the public and other members.  If anyone is interested in compiling that data into a spreadsheet for their own marketing purposes, they may do so.  Chamber staff should not release its own internal member roster data spreadsheet to other members or the public.  Our chamber is committed to the efficient use of its staff time and to reducing the amount of spam and other unwanted emails addressed to its membership.
2.  The chamber cannot send out sales/marketing announcements to the membership for the benefit of others.  While the chamber cannot prohibit members from conducting mass marketing campaigns to the general membership, we encourage those campaigns to be done via our social media platforms: our Facebook page and our Facebook Group page on Tuesdays and Fridays as outlined in this flyer.  If you have any questions or need any help with your social media marketing efforts, please contact our social media consultant, Heather Heuman, at Sweet Tea Social Marketing at (803) 908-7593 or heather@sweetteasocialmarketing.com.
Thanks for your understanding and as always, please feel free to contact me directly with any questions or comments.
