Big Grab Draws Thousands to Blythewood

The 85-mile yard sale known as the Big Grab came to Blythewood on September 9th and 10th and brought thousands of visitors to town.  For the first time the Greater Blythewood Chamber of Commerce was in charge of managing the logistics and marketing for the Richland County section, most of which was in the Blythewood town center.

One of our areas of responsibility included managing the largest multi-vendor site in the area at 311 Blythewood Rd., the old community center location.  We signed up 65 vendors, marked off all the spaces, designed and managed new traffic patterns in and out of the venue, and spent about 24 hours on our feet asking shoppers for their zip codes as they entered the parking area.  We were able to gather almost 1,600 (and missed many hundreds more) and with the help of chamber member, Jean Blaum, and chamber member Beth Cox at Richland School District 2, you can click here to see where these visitors came from.  Some were as far away as Arizona and New York and many places in between!

Another area we worked hard on was completely re-designing the Big Grab web site, including creating online maps and setting up online ordering for vendors and sponsors for the very first time.

All in all, it was a great time and we look forward to helping make next year’s event even bigger and better!
